A child died after drowning in a pond near a temple located near Pipra village in Madhopur police station area of Gopalganj district. The deceased has been identified as Anup Kumar, nine-year-old son of Jagdish Kumar of Pipra village.
According to the information, Anup Kumar had gone to the temple with his grandmother on Thursday evening to worship. As soon as his grandmother went to fill water from the pond, Anup also went to the edge of the pond. During this, his feet slipped and he fell into the pond. On hearing his grandmother’s scream, people rushed there and started searching for the child in the pond. However, due to night time, it took hours to search. After that, local divers took him out, but by then it was too late. He was immediately brought to Barauli PHC, where the doctor declared him dead. On receiving the information, the police reached the spot, took the body in their custody and sent it to Sadar Hospital Gopalganj for postmortem. At the same time, there was an uproar among the family members on hearing the news of death.
It is being told that as soon as the information of the child drowning in the pond was received, there was no swimmer there immediately. People who did not know swimming could not go inside due to fear. After that the diver was informed by the administration and it took a long time for the diver to reach. Also, it took a lot of time to find the child in the darkness of the night, due to which the child died. After the death of the child, his grandmother started crying bitterly. She was saying only one thing that despite my repeated refusals, my grandson followed me. I did not want to take him with me, but he did not listen to me. If he had listened to me today, he would have been in front of all of us.
